Maria Cecilia Garcia began her career as a loan officer in 2007, when many were leaving the business. During that time, the home market had crashed, and loans were extremely difficult to close. With home prices dropping and loan modification and foreclosures becoming part of the real estate landscape, the entire housing market was in chaos. The benefit of beginning her career during these tumultuous times was having a clear understanding of the consequences of unethical lending practices, poorly communicated loan products, and firsthand experience in losing a home due to a declining economy and creative financing. Although Maria Cecilia was not lending during the heyday of easy money financing, she appreciated starting her career when tough loans, genuine compassion and honest practices made a difference in people’s lives.

Today she is helping the children of many of the clients she helped through the 2007 – 2009 housing crash. Why? Because families appreciated her honesty, wisdom, and kindness during those financially difficult times. Her business has grown through word of mouth and generational referral, which she wears as a crowning achievement of her 15-year career. When the children of the parents who experienced the financial crash turn to her for advice and guidance, there are little words to describe the privilege and honor.

Maria Cecilia is the daughter of two immigrant parents. Her father was born in Havana Cuba and arrived in the U.S. by means of political asylum in 1969, and her mother immigrated from El Salvador by means of a work visa. They met in New York city within 24 hours of arriving to a new country and embracing an unknown future with no family connections or known friends. They soon married and had 2 children. Maria Cecilia, being the oldest, was the primary translator for her parents. As young as 12 years old, she translated her first set of loan documents for her parents. She marvels at how she became a residential and specialized reverse mortgage advisor a couple decades later.

Today she has a beautiful family that consist of a partner, 3 children, and her amazing mother who is now in her 80’s – and the driving force for her commitment to reverse mortgages, and a wonderful younger brother and his extended family. The business is coined “The Mortgage Family”, centered on the principle that God and family come before career and financial ambition.
